As part of the implementation of a US Department of Agriculture (USDA) initiative, “Bridge to the Future” Program, ARED is strengthening its commitment to a more effective and inclusive education system in Mauritania. This new phase of the project, “L’Avenir Nous Appartient (ANA)” (The Future is Ours), focuses on institutional capacity building to support education policies in a sustainable way.
As part of this effort, ARED has conducted training sessions for staff from the Ministry of National Education and the Reform of the Education System of Mauritania, focusing on data management and analysis, needs assessment, and decision-making support.
This initiative reflects the tangible support of the American people, through the USDA and in partnership with Counterpart International, for the long-term improvement of the education system in Mauritania
Key Milestones:
- ●A training program was launched in Nouakchott from March 10 to 14, 2025, with ministry staff, and was then rolled out in the wilayas of Tagant, Brakna, and Gorgol on March 17–18, March 20–21, and March 24–25, 2025.
- ●In parallel, the project is preparing the launch of a web platform dedicated to the collection, processing, and visualization of educational data. A mobile application with offline functionality will complement the platform to ensure accessibility even in areas without internet access.
ARED also plays a key role in updating and optimizing educational resources developed as part of the ANA project, while supporting strategic planning alongside Mauritanian educational authorities. This partnership aims to lay the foundations of a more robust education system, one that is responsive to local needs and adaptable to current educational challenges.
- RELIT (completed projects section - see possibility of including ARED resource persons in this section)
The RELIT (Renforcement de la Lecture Initiale en Langues Nationales) project - funded by USAID and piloted by a consortium led by RTI - was designed to strengthen the reading skills of primary school pupils in Senegal, particularly in the Cours d'Initiation (CI) and Cours Préparatoire (CP) classes.
ARED has played a strategic role in developing innovative teaching materials and supporting teacher capacity-building for more effective teaching rooted in national languages.
Through its expertise, ARED has contributed to the creation of an inclusive learning environment that respects the local linguistic context, by supporting the production of quality materials and the training of teachers and school principals.
ARED's main contributions to the project :
- Design and production of 12 teaching guides and 12 CI student tools, i.e. one guide and one tool per language, for two volumes.
- Development of 15 teaching guides, 15 student tools and 15 pre-school activity booklets for five languages, in three volumes.
- Active participation in in-service training for teachers, managers and trainers, in national language didactics and pedagogical coaching.
- Contribution to the creation of Braille materials and the development of modules for the e-learning platform.
- Involvement in 38 training workshops to upgrade the skills of trainers, teachers and principals.
ARED has put its expertise in national language didactics at the service of more equitable education, actively participating in the pedagogical transformation of basic education accessible to all.
I would incorporate this narrative into the narrative for MOHEBS. RELIT no longer exists but ARED's work on it was to support the scaling of the MOHEBS, I believe.
