As part of the Daara Development Academyfunded by the Gates Foundation, ARED was honored to participate in the 3rd retreat organized at New Delhi. The event brought together eleven African organizations to learn from India's experience in the field of FLN (Foundational Literacy and Numeracy).
Meeting objectives :
- Take stock of achievements to date.
- Define the outlook for the 2nd phase of the program, which will include a new cohort to reinforce the existing one.
A program rich in exchanges and learning :
Participants had the opportunity to discover the NIPUN Mission (National Initiative for Proficiency in Reading with Understanding and Numeracy), launched by the Government of India on July 5, 2021, with the aim of achieving fundamental literacy and numeracy skills by 2026-2027. The NIPUN Mission is an innovative program in India, funded by the Gates Foundation through the NGO Central Square Foundation (CSF). The program supports the Indian government in several key areas, including:
- Designing teaching materials.
- Teacher training.
- Monitoring and evaluation (M&E).
- Community mobilization.
Field visit to Haryana :
Our delegation visited schools in the state of Haryana, in Sandigarhwhere we were able to :
- Observing classroom practices
- Discuss the positive impact of the program with parents.
- Meet with a departmental director and program managers to better understand their approach.
Sharing expertise :
During the workshops, the heads of the various Central Square Foundation chapters presented their initiatives and the results achieved in their respective fields, while highlighting their work in the field of EdTech, which focuses on the use of technology to enhance student learning, both at home and at school.
ARED leaves this retreat with an enriched vision and concrete ideas for continuing to promote quality education in Africa.
